Leaving the cold weather behind them, IPP Logipal’s Gary Williams and David Bage are currently taking part in this week’s cycle challenge across Tanzania to raise money for specialist transport charity Transaid
The business development manager and operations manager respectively, who are based at the company’s Meriden Business Park headquarters in Coventry, have taken up the adventure with 40 other fearless cyclists in a bid to raise awareness and money to help save lives in Africa.
Between all involved they aim to raise over £100,000 by tackling a challenging 420km journey over mountainous terrain and along the Indian Ocean coast of Tanzania. The team are around halfway through the 5-day expedition, which started on Monday.
IPP Logipal’s European commercial director, Phil Storer, says: “We are extremely proud of their efforts in taking part in such a demanding challenge to help raise funds for a very worthy charity, and we’re all following their progress.
“I’d also like to thank all the companies that have pledged sponsorship. Both Gary and David have received great support from customers and suppliers as well as partners from across the supply chain industry.”
Money raised by the event will go towards Transaid’s established driver training projects that are helping to reduce the number of accidents on Zambia’s roads - the third largest premature killer in Africa after HIV/AIDs and malaria.
Transaid is also working in Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Mozambique and Ghana to help improve lives and enable some of the poorest people in the world to get better access to education, healthcare and employment opportunities.
